Turck has an extensive portfolio of ultrasonic sensors for a wide range of applications that can be implemented with only a few sensor variants

Variable High Performance Ultrasonic Sensors

17/13 – Turck’s comprehensive ultrasonic sensor series features short blind zones, large measuring ranges and a wide range of parameter options

Mülheim, 28. Oktober 2013

The new RU-U ultrasonic sensor series from Turck enables the user to cover large sensing ranges with fewer sensor variants. The Turck ultrasonic sensors in M18 and M30 housing styles thus effectively reduce the range of variants required for stock-keeping. This is made possible by the particularly short blind zones of the sensors, which offer large sensing ranges at the same time – for example with a 40 cm range the blind zone is only 2.5 cm.
In order to offer the right sensor for every application with only a few sensor variants, Turck has increased the versatility of the individual models: Thus the simple compact version of the RU40 and RU100 modules enables the user to set diffuse mode and opposed mode operation as well as NC and NO switching outputs with a teach adapter. The standard sensor versions also enable the setting of switch windows and two separate switching points, either by a teach adapter or via a teach button directly on the sensor.

The high-end versions can be operated as a switch or as an analog sensor. Different operating modes, temperature compensation or the output function can also be set via IO-Link. If several sensors are installed next to each other, the customer can set the sensor parameters in synchronization or multiplex mode, in order to prevent mutual interference of the sensors.

Increased versatility

The simple compact version of the RU40 and RU100 modules enables the user to set diffuse mode and opposed mode operation as well as NC and NO switching outputs with a teach adapter. The standard sensor versions also enable the setting of switch windows and two separate switching points, either by a teach adapter or via a teach button directly on the sensor.

High-end versions with IO-Link

The high-end versions can be operated as a switch or as an analog sensor. Different operating modes, temperature compensation or the output function can also be set via IO-Link. If several sensors are installed next to each other, the customer can set the sensor parameters in synchronization or multiplex mode, in order to prevent mutual interference of the sensors.

Special housings: Angled head and rectangular design

The RU sensor in the M18 housing is now also available as an angle head variant. Its radiation angle is rotated by 90 degrees, which simplifies mounting in restricted and angular spaces. Angle head variants are available for ranges up to 130 cm.

The ultrasonic sensor in the CK40 housing is particularly suited for room monitoring or sag detection. Its rectangular design enables a very large opening angle of 60°. This enables the sensor to also detect objects which only scatter the reflected sound signals or reflect them very poorly. The CK40 is suitable for ranges up to 250 cm and is available with an M12 or terminal chamber connection.

Six meter switching distance

Turck has developed the robust RU-600U in the M30 stainless steel housing with a 600 cm switching distance for applications requiring a very large range. In spite of its large range it comes with a very short blind zone of only 60 cm.

3GD versions for Ex zones 2 and 22

Turck offers also 3GD versions for use in Ex zones 2 and 22. With ranges of 40, 130, 300 or 600 cm they are ideally suited for fill level applications in tanks or feeders. Their rust-proof and acid resistant surface made from stainless steel (1.4403) is also resistant to aggressive media. The 3GD sensors are available as high-end sensors.
